RAF cadets regional success

Thomas Deacon Academy RAF Cadets achieve best ever regional performance at RAF Cranwell

Fifteen members of the RAF section of TDA’s successful Combined Cadet Force (CCF) achieved their best ever position in the hard fought Regional Trophy Competition held at RAF Cranwell on the 23rd November 2014.

This is the 4th year that TDA RAF cadets have participated in the regional competition and the team achieved its best ever placing of 10th position overall; the command task, led by Staff Sergeant Harry Veal-Gray, achieved the third highest score for that task on the day.

Nineteen regional schools competed in the RAF Knowledge test which included a paper based multiple choice test, sat in exam conditions in October. The top sixteen teams were then invited to RAF Cranwell to take part in a series of testing team challenges. These included a precision drill sequence and turnout, first aid, command task, fitness, shooting and aircraft recognition. Points were accumulated from each event to establish an overall winner who will then go forward to the National event.

Members of the successful TDA team included Staff Sgt Harry Veal- Gray, L/CPl William (Billy) Wren, L/CPl Sema Kucuk, L/Cpl Alex Bishop, Cdt Georgia-May Bodily, Cdt Heidi Jex, Cdt Oakley La-Touche, Cdt Maddy Raymond, Cdt Jawwad Abbas, Cdt  Shania Redford, Cdt Arnya Turner, Cdt Oliver Whitehead, Cdt Saria Arshad, Cdt Rhys Bean and Cdt Heather Cliff.

Julia French, Flying Officer, RAF Section Commander for TDA, said:

“We are competing against schools such as King’s Grantham, Kimbolton, Woodbridge, Oundle and Uppingham and I am immensely proud of each and every one of our cadets who gave their very best.”
