TDA Students Win Prizes at The Oundle Festival


The recent Oundle Festival of Music and Drama resulted in a clutch of awards for Thomas Deacon Academy students. This prestigious Festival is presided over by The Lady Brassey and first took place in 1909. It is affiliated to the British & International Federation of Festivals and ran 147 different classes over three days at Oundle School and St. Peters Church Oundle culminating in a concert celebrating the competition winners on the 23rd April.

Over 70 Drama and Music Students from the Academy competed at the Festival with enormous success.  Ibrahim Dar & Aroosa Hussain’s Shakespearean Duologue won the Oundle Town Council Prize with Alex Roberts taking second place in the Oundle Young Singer of the Year and first place in the Musical Theatre Solo class. Other notable awards went to Peter Fell and Calvin Westorn who walked away with first and second place respectively in the Solo Acting class. Oliver Simmons won the Verse Speaking class for years 9, 10 and 11 making this his 4th consecutive win in this class. The Thomas Deacon students also won the Music Theatre award as an ensemble for their rendition of ‘Rhythm of Life’.

Kirsten Barr, Head of Music at the Academy, who also gained first place in the Operatic Solo class, commented: “I am so happy that all of our student’s hard work paid off, everyone at the Academy is very proud of all of them and their wonderful achievements”.
